LarcVEC175

W9YB Purdue University ARC will be holding an Amateur Radio License testing session on Saturday, June 24th 2017.

The session will be held at RAWLS HALL room 2079 from 9am-11am.

For more information and to register for the exam please see our w9yb.org/licensing page.

***ATTENTION***Because of the road construction around Purdue University Campus please note the following:

1.  State Street is closed due to construction, please give yourself plenty of time to find parking and navigate the area carefully.

2.  The Wood Street Parking garage that is adjacent to RAWLS Hall is also closed for the summer for construction.

3.  There are still places that you can park that are free, but it may require a bit of a walk.  Andrew Place Street is such a street that is free parking.  Andrew Place Street is located behind the Grant Street garage, it is the road that runs parallel to Grant St. (to the East).

4.  You can still park in Grant Street Garage, however they do charge a fee.  The fees are as follows to park in the Grant Street Garage (located across from the Union building on the East side):

Parking rates are hourly – $3 for first 60 minutes and $1 each hour for 2nd-8th hours; daily max $10. Payment must be made before returning to your vehicle at a machine in the garage lobby (southwest corner of garage across from the Purdue Memorial Union Hotel entrance).

For more information, maps to the area, and exam registration please see w9yb.org/licensing for details.

W9YB is now part of Laurel VEC group!

LarcVEC175W9YB Purdue University ARC is now part of the Laurel VEC group!  What does this mean for our testing sessions…well there are many benefits!

  1.  NO MORE EXAM FEES! Laurel lets us provide volunteer testing without the $15 fee that the ARRL VEC made us charge previously.  This is much better for students in particular and those always trying to find an ATM somewhere near our testing location at the last minute!

2.  Faster Processing:  We have heard that processing times for licensees that have taken the test are 24-48 instead of waiting a week to see if your new license has posted on the FCC ULS database.  This has not yet been confirmed however with W9YB PUARC.

3.  Less Administrative Overhead for the VE Session Manager:  Although licensee’s don’t see all the paperwork necessarily, it is something that is a major burden to the process.  Having to mail out copies of the tests, answer sheets, CSCE forms and arranging them in the correct order is a tedious task.  Laurel uses an all electronic submission system meaning no more papers need to be mailed!

The VE team here at W9YB Purdue University Amateur Radio Club is excited by this change.  We hope to continue our leadership being the most popular VE Team in the area for testing.

All of our VE members are strictly volunteer and they do it all for you and the love of ham radio!

Come take your test with us or next upgrade.  Details on the w9yb.org/licensing page.

The new W9YB.ORG

frustrated_pc-618x336Well….the start to 2017 has been a rough one for us at W9YB.  It seems like the old server that was hosting our website had some issues.

The web server which was ran by the IEEE organization at Purdue held a few other sites on it for other clubs as well. The server was old and it was way past time that we did something about the hosting.

So, now we have a reliable and secure host, and it is just up to me to now populate the site with content again.

Please be patient with us, as we get things back to normal here.  It will take us a little while.

I will be experimenting with a new look and we try to determine what is the best and cleanest way to get information to the users of this site.

We at W9YB strive to keep this site up-to-date with the latest and best information regarding the club and Amateur Radio in general.  If there is information that you need that is not listed here on w9yb.org, please visit the contact page and send us a message.  We would be happy to respond to any questions or comments you have.

Thanks and 73! de W9YB
