The FCC is updating the CORES system effective March 1, 2019. This is the system that maintains the FCC Registration Numbers (FRNs).
The change that will affect users the most is that the procedure for applicants to get an FRN will now require the applicant to create a CORES account before they can request an FRN. Creating a CORES account will be a two-step process which will include responding to an e-mail to confirm the registration. This will make having an applicant apply for & receive an FRN at a session more difficult to accomplish.
In addition the FCC has stated that, at some unspecified time in the future, they will no longer accept a Social Security Number (SSN) on an application. Therefore, all applicants must have an FRN before they can take an exam or make changes to their existing license. The FCC has not indicated when this new requirement will go into effect, but it will probably be within the next 12-18 months. Therefore W9YB Purdue ARC VE Team will no longer accept SSN numbers for applications starting March 1, 2019.
